Research Trends on Self-management for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Abstract
Self-management strategies for students with disabilities have drawn attention not only as an effective method to change or maintain target behaviors but also as a means to empower students¡¯ self-determination. The purpose of this study is to investigate research trends on self-management for students with autism spectrum disorders(ASD) by reviewing domestic and abroad literature. In this article, 24 studies(5 domestic studies and 19 abroad studies) published from 2000 to 2011 were selected. Thorough the process of analyzing studies, overall research trends on self-management of ASD were reported first, and then types of student participants, settings, other participants, independent variables, dependent variables, and quality factor of experimental design were examined. At last, implications for further research extending the instruction of self-management procedures to students with ASD was discussed.
